James Purtell
Chief Executive Officer

James Purtell founded Mortgage Financial Services in 1987 with one mission in mind: to provide comprehensive lending services to consumers throughout their lifetimes. Since its first year of operation, Mortgage Financial has grown to become one of the largest lenders in New England . Fostering a corporate environment that stresses a deep relationship with each customer, Jim has hired and trained loan originators that have helped over 30,000 customers throughout New England .

Jim is a member of the Mortgage Banker’s Association of America, National Association of Mortgage Brokers, and the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association. Jim is a frequent speaker at seminars and workshops concerning a wide array of topics pertaining to mortgage banking.

Through Jim’s vision and unwavering commitment to every customer, Mortgage Financial has a reputation for unparalleled customer satisfaction. Jim has created a team that can handle all areas of financing from first-time home buyers to refinancing to reverse mortgages. The company’s motto Lender for Life™ is meant to serve as Jim’s personal commitment that every one of the firm’s customer’s can count on the firm through the constantly changing needs of their lifetime.

Jim graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts. He is involved in a wide range of fund raising events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Boston Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Association. He resides with his wife and three children in Andover , MA .

S. John Murray
Senior Vice-President Sales

S. John has served as Senior VP of Sales at Mortgage Financial since 1990. Over the past twenty years originating mortgages, he has personally handled over 6900 loans with dollar volume exceeding $1.36 billion. For 2001, 2002, 2003, & 2004, S. John made Mortgage Originator’s Top 200 list, which recognizes the leading 200 loan originators in the country. He has averaged over $125 million in closed loan volume each of those last four years. In 1998, S. John received the “Leaders Making A Difference” Award from Bankers & Tradesman for best representing the entrepreneurial, technological, and humanistic side of performing business in Massachusetts. S. John has been featured as an industry leader in Mortgage Originator, American Banker, Broker, and other industry magazines and newspapers. He is a frequent speaker on local and national radio and television programs. Last summer, S. John was selected from among 25000 Mortgage Market Guide subscribers, as a finalist in the Mortgage Market “idol” contest. Finishing in the top five, he received a fully paid tuition to Todd Duncan’s Sales Mastery Event held in Palm Desert.

S. John received a Bachelor of Science in Economics cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1985. He and his wife, Laurie, live in Wenham with their three children, Matthew, Nicholas, and Lauryn.
